Changes to Information Submitted under CDS
As you’re aware, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is introducing the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS), to replace the existing Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system.
The introduction of CDS brings with it new requirements, one of which is additional information businesses will need to submit with their import declaration, due to changes to the UK Trade Tariff.
To support declarants to prepare for these changes, HMRC is planning a series of communications to make it easier for businesses to understand the new information they’ll need to make a declaration and where to find out more. These communications can also support with any internal preparations businesses are making.
Meanwhile, you may find the following guide, created by the British International Freight Association (BIFA) in collaboration with HMRC, useful. This has been developed to help freight forwarders and importers understand the new requirements and can be accessed here.
